Our Main Project

The inspiration behind our whole organisation is the Time and Place project.

Time and Place, an organisation set up by a group of driving instructors in the Forest of Dean, were sick and tired of reading about the senseless deaths of young drivers on our roads.

As a result of this carnage, especially in 2005, the Forest & Wye Valley Driving Instructors Association called an extraordinary meeting for their members. At this meeting, three ideas were put forward:

1. A public meeting would be held so that Forest people could voice their concerns.
2. Offer driver assessments to the public.
3. A unique presentation
would be put together to present to local schools and colleges.

The public meeting was attended by 150 people and was hosted by Mark Harper MP. Limited numbers took up the driver assessment option.

The presentation which was put together has become recognised as one of the most unique and thought provoking of its kind with thought provoking videos and a hard-hitting emotional ending. It has been presented to approximately 30,000 people so far.

Time and Place has also presented evening events to the general public. After seeing the presentation the local police asked if we could present two performances for drivers who took the option of attending, as opposed to a fine for driving offences. We also work in conjunction with the Gloucestershire Road Safety Unit, who have provided us with equipment.

Time and Place works with the Forest of Dean Motor Club and supports their sponsored events, as we believe there is a time and place for motor sports in a controlled environment.

Each year, in September, we organise a Road show at the Forest of Dean College, for new starters combining elements of motor sport and road safety. This is achieved with the help and support of the Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and St. John Ambulance.

Our eventual aim is to provide a Driving Centre in the Forest benefiting all road users, young, old, cyclists, pedestrians and drivers. We want the Forest to have the best driver education facility in the country.

And here our story begins...
